LA Marine Backs Young Superyacht Designers

LA Marine is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Superyacht UK Young Designer Competition 2025, an event dedicated to discovering and nurturing the next generation of superyacht designers. Now a highly anticipated feature of the Southampton International Boat Show, the competition has a strong track record of launching careers, with past winners securing roles at world-leading design studios.

Open to Masters degree students and 2nd- or 3rd-year undergraduates from any design discipline, the competition challenges participants to create an original superyacht concept under timed conditions. Entrants receive a live design brief and just over a day to develop their vision, with only hand-drawn sketches permitted—a test of both raw creativity and technical ability. Finalists will pitch their ideas to a distinguished panel of industry experts, with the winner receiving an internship opportunity within a renowned design studio.

Sponsoring the 2025 competition, LA Marine further highlights its commitment to encouraging emerging talent in the maritime industry. Their support comes as the firm celebrates 25 years of delivering expert legal services across commercial shipping and leisure marine sectors.

"Encouraging fresh talent is key to the future of the marine industry, and this competition is a gateway for young designers to gain hands-on experience and real-world connections," says Philippa Langton, Partner at LA Marine. "As we celebrate 25 years in business, we’re proud to support an initiative that aligns so closely with our passion for the industry and its continued evolution.

Over the years, the Superyacht UK Young Designer Competition has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between education and the professional world. In addition to competing for top prizes, students gain valuable networking opportunities, expert mentorship, plus a chance to showcase their talent to leading figures in yacht design.

With this sponsorship, LA Marine reinforces its role as a dedicated partner to the marine industry—championing not only its clients but also the future visionaries who will shape the next era of yacht design.
